Weather Changes can Make Pains Worse

There are a lot of people who suffer from chronic back pain.  In fact, 1 in 5 suffer from some sort of pain, and nearly 10 percent have chronic pain.  When the cold weather comes, that pain often gets a little bit worse.

Having a chiropractor adjust you frequently is one way to help relieve back pain.  But there are ways you can take care of things at home, so you can get through the winter months without succumbing to outrageous pain.

7 Ways to Relieve Back Pain

Some will work for all; all will work for some.  Find the methods that help reduce your pain and lean into those.

  • Get an Adjustment: What’s the best way to relieve that pain? To start with a blank slate of course!  Get those bones popped back into the right place, so you aren’t fighting bad alignment when you’re finishing your exercises at home.
  • Core Exercises: The best way to make sure your joints don’t get out of alignment is to ensure the rest of the body is strong. Core strength is a phenomenal way to keep things in position and properly functioning.
  • Stay Flexible: Many Americans aren’t flexible. And they get less flexible as they age.  Simple stretches each day can move you from the not-flexible and prone to injury stage, into the flexible and more less likely to be injured by simple movements.
  • Move a Bit: Exercise is almost a lost art. Especially in the winter we want to curl up under a blanket and wait until spring.  But it’s important to keep the muscles working so we can be strong enough to ensure our joints to slip out of whack.
  • Hydrate More: Winter is dry times here in Montana. It’s easy to get dehydrated.  Keep a water bottle nearby and constantly sip throughout the day.  Big gulps will only pass right through you, small sips throughout the day get absorbed and do the most good.
  • Eat Right: It’s tempting to load up on carbs and fried treats. They taste good and warm the body up.  But neglecting proper veggies and nutrition leads to inflammation.  Inflammation leads to sore joints that don’t quite work the way they should.
  • Stay Warm: Warm muscles are more flexible and pliable than cold ones. If your muscles are cold and tight, they can tend to pull your joints out of place faster.  The result is that you end up with a pulled muscle and a joint that’s all out of whack.
