Some Headaches have Simple Fixes

We all get headaches.  From the dull pounding because we didn’t drink enough water, to the debilitating migraine – they all happen for a reason.  Sometimes they have an easy, or simple fix.  Sometimes, there are extensive underlying issues that need to be addressed before the headaches will go away.

Let’s take a look at how a chiropractor in Billings describes these headaches, and what can be done to alleviate them.

Five Types of Headaches You May Suffer From

This isn’t an exhaustive list.  There may be more types and reasons behind your aching noggin.  These are the most common.

Tension Headaches

Sometimes these headaches come from stress, but sometimes they come from misaligned joints.  The tension that is created, leads to an aching head.  Fortunately, they can be remedied by getting those joints realigned.  They might not go away the first adjustment, but over time the body will recognize that it doesn’t need to tighten up those muscles quite as much.  Massage can also help with tension headaches.

Migraine Headaches

Migraines have a multitude of different causes – some can be as simple as lacking nutrients in the diet. Many of them include visual disturbances that are described as bright flashing lights; often so severe the sufferer is unable to see properly.  If the cause can be pinpointed, it can be removed.  However, medical intervention is often necessary to reduce occurrences.

Sinus Headaches

Sever congestion can build up pressure in the sinuses.  This pressure pushes against other key areas of the head and leads to a sinus headache.  Often felt in the front of the head, just below the eyes, sinus headaches can “spread” into tension headaches.  They’re common during allergy season and can often be eliminated with over-the-counter anti-histamine drugs.

External Headaches

External headaches refer to any headache that is caused by an external force.  Jumping, sudden impact, and you might even lump drinking too much the night before and having a wicked hangover the next day into that mix.  Some headaches, caused by injuries, can be helped with proper chiropractic care – get those bones aligned so the body can focus on healing.  Others, like that hangover, you just have to hydrate up and wait it out.

Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches are called such as they tend to come back repeatedly, and “cluster” in one area of the head.  Typically, it’s off to one side, or behind one eye.  Symptoms can be mild, to debilitating, and may need medical intervention to discover the cause.  Pain can be reduced with an anti-inflammatory or other pain reliever medication.

Come See Dr. Shayne Durbin – Chiropractor in Billings

When you’re suffering from headaches, your body needs to be able to heal properly.  A nervous system that isn’t working to the fullest extent won’t let the body concentrate efforts on the parts that need to be healed.

When you are regularly aligned, your bones are in place to let the nervous system work the right way.  The ultimate result is that healing occurs as fast as possible.
